Jaguar’s new Special Vehicle Operations team has built an F-Type R Coupe to act as a support car for Team Sky on stage 20 of the 2014 Tour De France. BMW today gave the green light for production of the dramatic Vision EfficientDynamics hybrid supercar shown at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show. Munich admitted today that the tech underpinning the concept car was 'completely or virtually production-ready' and said that the car will be launched very much as shown in Frankfurt. It has started roadgoing tests of the 2+2 EfficientDynamics sports car and its three-cylinder turbodiesel hybrid system.

Say 'supercar' and the man in the street thinks of Ferrari. Eponymous founding father Enzo set up in Modena in 1929 as the Scuderia race team, and it wasn't unitl 1947 that the first road cars appeared. Since then, virtually every model has come to define the contemporary supercar, although there have been some duds along the way too.
